If there's anything I think I didn't learn enough during my medical school time it will come to this : Dermatology, Ophtalmology and RESEARCH.
I remember it was one of my senior who told me to chill and having "the time of my medschool life" during this block because it was rather easy and not as busy as the next block which is Cardiorespiratory, so I kind of having it easy and involving a lot in organizations and events. I even went to Semarang for LKMM Wilayah and arranged the Plan of Action Project on Maternal Health where we invited doctors and midwifes to give a talk in a village. It was all fun but little did I know that it wasn't really that fun years later to discover that not just the block containing only the very basic of research knowledge it is also that I will eventually having more interest research.
As you may have known (or not haha) I have been working this past 5 months in Cardiology research department in Sardjito and slowly I learn that research is sooo much more interesting that I thought and I think I have a growing interest and wanting to conduct my own research but then here's the thing : The research I ever learned to conduct is the one that is for my Skripsi and it is rather easy if like me, you went to your lecturer and ask him/her to join their research. We call it penelitian payung, the main theme is there and you just need to figure out where your focus is and even better we will have two lecturers to guide us along the way, main adviser that will guide you in all the other aspects of research and the methodological adviser to advice you in biostatistics matter.
But I am not really that bad you know *nervous laughter* I understand pretty well how to interpret research result and critically appraise it as well as writing a nice proposal consist of why this research should have been done (other that to let me graduate from school of course hahaha) and other things but biostatistics.
Now, I have to explain the situation around : Me and mathematics doesn't really get along, we kind of uhmm don't really appreciate each others' existence other than the very basic use hahaha but biology is a natural thing that I understand without trying extra hard so I just agreed when my parents asked me to enroll to medical school because yeah, I won't find math there! It was too naive of me of course to think that way. Math my old friend-that-doesn't-get-along-but-still-have-to welcomed me in my research block and I seriously considered the possibility to withdrawal myself from school but then I remember that I can't do that for my parents had paid the tuition which can be a better use to get me new pairs of shoes but whatever.
Okay back to my plan to conduct research : On the good side of it I think it is a great thing to know what you don't know and still have the passionate, burning willing to re-study it. The not-so-good side? I need to re-study everything now bhahaha but on second though well MAYBE I have to re-study everything after this Kahiyang-Bobby wedding reportagee, we'll see.
Life lessons : Don't just listen to your senior *facepalm*
Have a nice week people!
